Built as a secluded, off-grid, woodland cabin to a design inspired by Tom’s Treehouse in Wandawega, Wisconsin, USA, FlashysRetreat is better suited to the more adventurous and active guest; those eligible for military service (18+ years) and those no yet retired from active service (<55 years). We apologise, but the design may not be suitable for everyone.
We regret that we cannot permit dogs to stay in the cabin, but stabling for horses can be agreed by separate enquiry.
SITREP
FlashysRetreat is situated in a secluded corner of Spring Wood at Throstle Nest, only a short walk along a woodland track from the designated parking. The design is a simple yet effective, offering a duplex living space, elevated above a lower deck and accessed by an external steel staircase.
The lower deck provides a great outdoor, covered space to “eat-out.” Take a place at the picnic table, at any time of day; BBQ with the use of a small Weber grill or toast marshmallows over the fire bowl.
The main deck of the duplex cabin comprises ≈16m2 of floor space with a further ≈4m2 balcony. The living space provides a 10m2 studio style living area with small kitchenette and ‘en suite’ toilet / shower room. With double glazed windows and glazed doors leading out onto the balcony, the living space provides a warm enclosed space with wonderful views of the woodland. The interior features a two seater sofa, dining table and chairs for two, with cutlery and crockery sufficient for a Cossack’s field kitchen.
The upper deck, or “loft” space, provides a further 10m2 of floor space with headroom of between 4-6 ft and can only be accessed by a ladder. The loft space incorporates both ‘reading’ and ‘sleeping’ areas. The 6m2 sleeping area has an natural cotton double futon mattress with Japanese/Korean style electric underfloor heating (for the winter months). In the opposite eave of the loft space you’ll find a 4m2 reading space with a comfy wooden Windsor style chair. The loft space is surrounded by a steel balustrade to provide safety.
Walk out onto the balcony to obtain a commanding view of the woodland and adjacent fields. Sit quietly and you’ll see deer, occasionally a fox, but invariably a variety of bats out hunting at dusk. Time your walks right and you might catch sight of a kingfisher down by the river.
Here, the rest of the world fades to a distant memory. The beautiful natural surroundings leave you to your own imagination – to immerse yourself in the incredible sense of peace and tranquility. Re-engage your senses and explore the sights, sounds, smells and feeling of the countryside.
